In Theaters This Week 11th September 2009

The crowded September frame continues with four new films heading into wide release. Tyler Perry is back with his newest project I Can Do Bad All By Myself, scary movies Sorority Row and Whiteout compete for the fright crowd, and the animated 9 offers thrills for sci-fi fans. The overall box office could match up to year-ago numbers when a quartet of fall newcomers also entered the marketplace.

The Tyler Perry brand is back and the director hopes to score his second number one opener of the year with I Can Do Bad All By Myself. Taraji P. Henson of Hustle & Flow anchors the PG-13 pic and Perry pops in with a supporting role as the popular Madea character helping to give a commercial boost. The filmmaker's two biggest career openings have come from last February's Madea Goes to Jail ($41M) and 2006's Madea's Family Reunion ($30M) so you can bet that the loudmouth matriarch will help pull in extra business. Debuts for other recent Perry vehicles include $17.4M for The Family That Preys, $20.1M for Meet the Browns, and $21.4M for Why Did I Get Married?

When Madea, America’s favorite pistol-packing grandma, catches sixteen-year-old Jennifer and her two younger brothers looting her home, she decides to take matters into her own hands and delivers the young delinquents to the only relative they have: their aunt April. A heavy-drinking nightclub singer who lives off of Raymond, her married boyfriend, April wants nothing to do with the kids. But her attitude begins to change when Sandino, a handsome Mexican immigrant looking for work, moves into April’s basement room. Making amends for his own troubled past, Sandino challenges April to open her heart. And April soon realizes she must make the biggest choice of her life: between her old ways with Raymond and the new possibilities of family, faith…and even true love.
